Renowned for its vibrant arts scene, the city of St. Petersburg, FL is home to numerous museums, independent galleries, and artist studios spread across seven arts districts. It also boasts thriving performing and literary arts communities. The city’s Public Art Collection serves a significant role within this larger network, making St. Petersburg truly a City of the Arts.

The public art collection began in 1990 when the St. Petersburg City Council adopted a Percent for Art Ordinance, which dedicated a portion of the budget for any new municipal construction to the commission and installation of public art. Since then, close to 90 artworks have become part of the city’s public art collection—with both local, national, and international artists represented. In 2017, the city of St. Petersburg reinforced this commitment with the adoption of the Art in Public Places Ordinance dedicated to ensuring a transparent selection process, fostering community engagement, and celebrating diverse artistic expression.
