Program Summary
Art in Public Places, Paramount, California, Municipal Code, Title 17, Chapter 17.112 (2025).
The Code establishes that private developers of projects which involve a project valuation of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) or more must make a mandatory public art contribution.
Private nonresidential building developments and private residential building developments of five (5) or more new dwelling units shall devote an amount not less than one percent (1%) of building development costs for acquisition and installation of publicly accessible art on the development site or the adjacent right-of-way within one-fourth (¼) mile.
Alternatively, developers of such projects may pay an in-lieu fee of equivalent value to the Public Art Fund. Developers may also choose to acquire and install a public artwork worth less than the required one percent (1%) valuation, and pay the remaining required value as an in-lieu fee to the Public Art Fund.
Projects exempt from this requirement are listed within the code. Maintenance of public artworks are the responsibility of the property owner and developer.
