Broward County Convention Center & OMNI Hotel Connectors

This image shows the grand pre-function ballroom foyer on the 6^th floor of the Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel. A massive, undulating ceiling installation features thousands of tiered brass rods that create a fluid, shimmering wave effect across the tiered ceiling tray.

The abstract patterned carpeting echoes the hotel’s coastal theme with overlapping textures of ocean blue, sandy beige, and crisp white. Large-scale geometric window framing lets in abundant natural light, contrasting against rich, vertically paneled wood entrance doors and minimalist brass sconces.

Prominently displayed over the console table on the right are two vibrant abstract paintings, expressive acrylic on canvas pieces by renowned local artist and architect Francisco Del Rio. The artwork adds a distinct, locally inspired touch to the hotel’s curated modern collection.

Local artist Ashley D.’s matching giclée prints infuse the Omni Hotels 6th-floor pre-function space with serene, coastal energy. Set against smoked glass mirrors, the abstract pieces feature dappled blues, greens, and whites that mimic the reflective play of light on water, beautifully complementing the adjacent outdoor terrace.

This arrangement of local shells on canvas (left) was created by Broward artist, Erin Bassett. By using local shells, Erin’s work directly references the shoreline, grounding the hotel’s coastal theme in local, organic materials and layered textures. Erin is a textile and mixed media artist, who holds a Bachelors in Photography from the University of Florida and a Masters of Fine Arts in Fiber Art from Savannah College of Art & Design. She has several pieces in the collection at the Omni. 

The photograph on the right captures the perspective from a yacht’s deck, drawing the eye toward the open ocean horizon, and is one of several photographs that reinforce the nautical theme throughout the hotel. 

In the Omni’s 2^nd floor pre-function space, Fort Lauderdale artist Roseanne Hill bridges the gap between interior architecture and life on the water. Hill utilizes hand-painted geometric grids on canvas that pay homage to Frank Stella. Rendered in a fluid palette of cool blue, teal, and aqua, the installation features interlocking lines and curves reminiscent of sailboat hulls, grounding the building’s structural design in its coastal surroundings.

Symmetrically framing the entryway of the Omni’s 2^nd floor pre-function lobby are twin giclée prints, Inspired by Nature, by Fort Lauderdale artist Paul Chang. These energetic, semi-abstract compositions are mounted against custom smoked glass mirrored walls and elevated by rustic root console tables.

This elegant 1^st floor corridor, located adjacent to the elevator banks, features a three-panel triptych by local artist Francisco del Rio. The artwork’s deep blue tones and geometric, architectural compositions create a brilliant visual contrast against the rich, vertical wood-slat wall paneling, grounding the transitional space with local artistic character.
